Counselling

Do I need counselling?

It is possible if you are asking yourself this question you might be struggling with various areas in your life. As a Qualified Integrative Therapist I have seen the benefits which therapy makes. Therapists when qualifying also attend Personal Therapy, this in turn helps us in understanding clients when they too first walk in the door for their first session.

My experience with clients has covered a range of issues:

  • Depression/Anxiety
  • Abuse
  • Self-esteem issues
  • Gender/Sexuality

  • Stress
  • Relationship issues
  • Bereavement, Grief and Loss
  • Personal Development

If you have been to Therapy previously or are new to it, it may be helpful to you to understand the positive changes which attending can bring to you.

In Therapy, Clients often find that it is through a good therapeutic relationship they find their own strength which fuels their growth and change.
It is also the ability to have a safe space where with their therapist they can be open, talk and explore their issues without fear of judgment and with empathy that clients can clarify their thoughts. This in turn often results in insight and acceptance of their experiences so that they can make the necessary changes and face their difficulties with renewed self-belief.

What can I expect from Counselling/Therapy?

I have an honours degree in Psychology as well as a Postgrad Diploma and Level 7 Degree in Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy. My qualification being integrative in nature means I combine various theoretical approaches. A client can expect that they will be given the safe and confidential space to talk about the issues they are experiencing, without being given expert opinions or solutions. This approach is known as Person-Centred Counselling and maintains that clients have within themselves the resources to reach their full potential and development, once the core conditions of the therapeutic relationship are present. These conditions are that the therapist shows genuine empathy, non-judgment, and a positive regard to them as individuals.

Another model which I have trained in is called Choice Theory which is more akin to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or CBT, while I also have a Practicitioners Cert. in CBT. These approaches may suit some clients more and are more directive in nature.
