FAQ

BSc. (Hons.) Psychology, BA in Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy, Pract. Cert. in CBT.

These are some of the most common queries I get about counselling.

What counselling issues do you deal with?

I am available to discuss with clients anything they wish to discuss, there are no issues that are out of bounds.  I work face to face and provide online sessions. I have experience with depression, anxiety, grief, bereavement, relationship issues, panic attacks, sexual abuse, low self-esteem, stress,  gender and multicultural issues.

How can I be sure my information is kept confidential?

I am a Pre-accredited Member of the IACP, which is the membership body for the Institute of Counselling and Psychotherapy in Ireland.   Members must follow the professional code of ethics of the IACP and confidentiality is key to the work of therapists.  There are some exceptions to this, namely if a client is of danger to themselves or others, or for reasons of law, for example child protection issues.   Client records must be stored securely and in such a way as to maintain a client’s confidentiality.

What age groups do you see?

I have experience of and currently work with adults of all gender and sexual orientation aged 18 years and upwards.  However if you wish to make an appointment for younger clients, please do not hesitate to call me and I can forward you details of other therapists who specialise in their age-group.

How do I make an appointment?

Phone 085-1576218 as it is most likely the swiftest way to make an appointment. If your call is not answered, once I become available it will be returned promptly. Alternatively email mailto:suzanne@shcounselling.ie

Can I make evening appointments?

Yes, I am available all day and evening for appointments every Monday – Thursday, from 9 a.m. – 8.00 p.m.

What will my first session entail?

It is likely that our first session will give you an idea of how well we may work together and whether you believe that counselling is the right way forward for you. There are various methods of counselling and various types of counsellor/therapist and it is important that you find the right fit for you. It would also be the time when you can ask questions, and we can go through our contract for working together. It is important to emphasise that there is no obligation for you to continue after this first appointment, it will be entirely up to you as to whether you feel that counselling as offered by me will be beneficial to you.

How many sessions will I need?

This will vary individual to individual. For some people, as little as four sessions could clarify their issues, while for some others they may require more time. The length of time a client will attend for therapy is very much up to themselves and can be terminated at their own will or in discussion with me if preferred. I find it useful to review with clients often how they feel they are progressing to ensure they are getting the most out of therapy.

How much does a Therapy session cost?

As a Pre-accredited Therapist, I charge €45 – €60 per Therapy Session, the fee is due at the end of the session, and payable
directly to myself. Accepted forms of payment at the moment are cash or cheque.

What if I need to cancel my session?

If for some reason you need to cancel your session, the more notice the better. However at a minimum I will require at
least 48 hours notice, and will try to re-schedule your appointment if possible. However if no notice is given or appointment missed, unfortunately the full fee will be due with the fee for the next session.
